2006. EUROPEAN HOLIDAYS
July-August 2006. 3 weeks in Europe.

July-August 2006. 3 weeks in Europe.

This year 2006 we were waiting impatiently for the summer holidays because we were invited by my friends to visit Europe for one month. My friends - Jean-Claude Legros and Evelyne Felix, his wife - are from Belgium and we know each other many years already. In 2004 they were invited by me to visit Russia and we had a beatiful trip to Altai mountains, where we had a climbing to the highest peak of that region - Belukha (Beluha) Mt. 4506 m. After that travel I was invited to visit their country - Belgium. In 2005 this plan was skipped, but in 2006 we could find the needed time and some money for this dream of childhood.
To get a visa to Belgium (we were asking for Shengen visa) in Novosibirsk was not too easy. First of all we were obliged to use Belgium general consulate in Moscow because there are no any other departments in Russia. But we were lucky to have an agreement with their staff to send all needed documents via post not visiting them personally. In total we spent half a year to gather all recuired documents and papers and al last we got this travel visa for me and my wife, Zhanna (Jane).
So, in July we packed up our rucksacks and took a train from Novosibirsk (Russia) to Almaty (Kazakhstan). From Almaty we had a car to Karakol (the eastern part of Issyk-Kul Lake, Kyrgyzstan) via Kegen town on the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan border. We went to Kyrgyzstan first, because we decided to leave our daughter Lyuba with our parents while we have a trip to Europe. This choice was the best for that time - Issyk-Kul region has a perfect climate for the health of our daughter.
In 19th of July we had a flight from Kyrgyzstan's main airport "Manas" (Bishkek) to Moscow, Sheremetyevo-2 (Russia), where we had a next flight to Brussels. Upon landing in Brussels' airport we were met by Jean-Claude and were brought by his car (Renault Megane - good medium car) to his house in Awan - a settlement near Aywaille city.
From the landing in Brussels in the first day and to the last day we had there we tried to see as much as it possible. Those three weeks we actually spent there we had no any rest, because it was pity to have that - we were walking around and kkeping an eye on all what was happening around - the style of European life was really interesting for us.
During this travel we had time to visit Belgium, Germany, France, Switzerland and Holland (Netherlands). And the general effect of this trip is very positive and that's clear for us now why so many people try to move to Europe leaving the countries where they live now. In our opinion now - Russia is behind the current economical and social situation of Europe on 50 years, not to mention Central Asian republics like Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan...
That's all in short above. We have so many emotions after European holidays so there is no enough time and paper to describe it. We had a camera with us and it was working all the time so we have a lot of pictures. The best photographs of Europe and our holidays I post here. I have added descriptions to every picture, so you can understand what every picture is about and where it was taken. Click on the photo and the new window with larger picture and full description will be opened...

The list on the Arc walls is the enumeration of settlements, areas and regions which were conquested by Napoleon. Some russian names are there too.
Paris. The list of the cities.
This day we had a dinner in Chinese Restaurant 'Dragons Elysees'. That was a first time in our life to have a Chinese dishes which were really tasteful and entourage inside of restauant was really peaceful - the floor was changed into the aquarium with big goldfishes and turtles.

The whole floor was changed into aquarium inside.

In the evening the heat was gone away and we hav an excursion in the downtown again. After this evening trip we decided that every city should be visited in daytime and in the eveing too because sometimes it's looking really different and wonderful. Night Paris created an unforgettable impression on us.

On the next day after Paris visit we continue our drive to the west of France. On the way we had a stop in the Castle St-Michel. This unique place is situated on the small isle with only one road conecting this isle and Big Land.
France. St-Michel Castle.
We took a small excursion into the main Cathedral of St-Michel.
St-Michel. Inside of the cathedral.
This is a view from the top of the St-Michel's isle to the sea. At the moment that was an ebb time and sea was far from us.
St-Michel. View to the sea.
This is a very interesting place. Besides the Cathedral, Castle, Museums and other historical monuments of St-Michel there are the simple people living (I guess only about the astronomical price of realty there).
And as usual this beautiful place is full of tourists and very crowdy. The parking is always full of big tourist buses and cars.
St-Michel. City-Castle-Cathedral in one place.
This is a house of friends who accepted us for the next 2 overnights. Situated on the North-East of France in area called Bretagne, Cotes-Du-Nord. The village Trigavou is very quiet and peacful place not far from Atlantic and English Channel.

That was decided to have a breakfast outside and everybody used straws because of sun shining.

St-Malo city is popular place as well. It's known with its old fortress and situated on the English Cannel coast.
France. St-Malo.
The old city is surrounded with fortress walls with people and gulls walking on them.

The town's beach of St-Malo. We met an interesting idea to create a pool on the coast. When they have ebb time the water in the pool is left and people can swim there. If you notice at this picture - the water is between the beach and the first isle.
St-Malo. The local beach.
While we were walking on the St-Malo fortress walls the water went away with ebb and we could go to the first isle by the special trail.
St-Malo. Go to isle. Ebb time.
There are some small caves, some historical monument on the isle near St-Malo old town and the beautiful view to the ocean... Ahh, and tourists of course.. a lot of them...
St-Malo. On the isle
Water was going out while we were walking and at that moment not only single trail was out of water but some space around too.
St-Malo. View from the isle to the town.
St-Malo is famous with its ice-cream and sea food. So we tried to find some good cafe to test it.
St-Malo. Square of the old town.
That was a first taste of mussels in this summer. At St-Malo we ate them cooked with local tradition. Before these mussels we had 4 kinds of sea snails to eat.
St-Malo. Mussels eating.
This is an ice-cream of St-Malo. In the center of old city we have found a special ice-cream cafe. The portions were very large.

The next day we dedicated to the visiting of the coast of English Channel near the village Erquy.
France. English Channel coast.
After Trigavou we continue our drive to other friends who live in the other beatiful place of France - Pys De La Loire (the river Loire is the longest in the France). The friends of my friends we happy to meet us and we spent the next few days in their house.
France. Lower Loire area.
